Steven A. Newhouse

Steven A. Newhouse, 64, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015. He was born on Jan. 19, 1951, in Fort Wayne, as the son of C. Frederick and Eleonora B. (Rebber) Newhouse.

He graduated from Norwell High School in Ossian, Ind., in 1969 and received his bachelor’s from Huntington University in 1973. Steven married Carol (McCullers) on July 30, 1988, in Muncie, Ind.

He worked for the State of Indiana, as a Senior Environmental Manager, for 20 years, before retiring in 2009. He also worked for the Division of Water Quality in Muncie, for 14 years, as a stream biologist.

Steven was a member of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Nashville, IN. He was also a past member of Indiana Academy of Science and North American Benthological Society. He loved reading, camping, hiking, canoeing the entire Yukon River with his son and sharing his love of nature. Steven was a pilot and also loved flying and was a third degree black belt in taekwondo.

Steve is survived by his wife, Carol Newhouse of Greenfield; children, Heather (Adam) Raffaele and Nicholas (Joy) Newhouse both of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; siblings, Sue Herrick of Rockford, Ohio, Pamela (Jim) Neu of Wolcottville, Ind., Sandra (Bruce) Todd of Horicon, Wisc. and Douglas (Susan) Newhouse of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, Lilly, Ellie, Logan, Jillian and Emma; one great- grandson, Nathaniel and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Frederick and Eleonora B. (Rebber) Newhouse; brother-in-law, Wyllis Herrick and niece, Jean Ann Herrick.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at Holy Transfiguration Orthodox, 4636 W. Fall Creek Rd., Crawfordsville, IN 47933. Father Jerome Sanderson be officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Cemetery in Crawfordsville, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent directly to Christ the Savior Orthodox Church, PO Box 63, Nashville, IN 47448 or envelopes will be available at the church.
