Christmas tree pickup has begun

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Street Department is picking up Christmas trees this week as residents rid their homes of the staple holiday decor.

To have your tree picked up, call the street department at 317-477-4380. Then place the tree on the curb in front of your home. Crews will be making rounds to pick up the trees during the next few weeks.

Trees are taken to the city’s wastewater treatment plant, which serves as a collection point, on South State Street. Trees are added to the pile of whatever limbs, leaves and grass are already there. Closer to spring, the city hires a contractor to chip the trees into mulch, which is then made available to residents at no cost.
