Evelyn M. Hirsch, 98, of Greenfield, passed away Friday evening Dec. 25, 2015, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. She was born Feb. 13, 1917, in Hancock County, the daughter of the late Arthur and Cressa (Brooks) Miller.

Evelyn graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1934, Indiana Central College B.S. in 1943, continuing education classes at Ball State and Butler University.

She worked part-time at Danner’s 5 & 10 store in Greenfield, she taught elementary school at Shirley, (Hancock Co) for four years, Brookston, In. for two years, New Castle for 5 years, Ft Wayne, ten years and Greenfield 1 semester, Charlottesville eleven years before retiring in 1977, plus homebound and substitute teaching at Kennard, Knightstown and Eastern Hancock Elementary.

Evelyn was active in 4-H with state canning awards, enjoyed cooking, canning, baking, crafts, traveling, family and church activities. She sang in youth women’s chorus, church organist and former member of the Charlottesville Christian Church and was a member of the Shirley Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Gary) Sickle of Greenfield, Karen Hirsch of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Bethany and Zachary Sickle of Greenfield and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold E. Hirsch in 2010 and three sisters, Dorotha Mae Sims, Mary Marie Toddler, and Betty Lou Miller.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Gary Sickle officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
