The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Oct. 6

New Palestine MSHS Center

Location: 4197 S. County Road 600W, New Palestine

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC – store raw frozen meat under frozen vegetables, corrected.

Jim Dandy Restaurant

Location: 80 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: C – dish machine not sanitizing, use three-compartment sink until repaired; C – mayonnaise and tartar sauce in food assembly area not cold enough, corrected; NC – need to obtain food thermometer with thin tip for burgers, 90 days; NC – need to replace light rods that are out, 90 days; C – unmarked and mismarked chemicals; NC – clean ceilings in areas of kitchen where grease and grime are, fuzzies have developed, 90 days; NC – handle of salad tongs in salad, corrected; C – box with raw pork loin cubes on top of the cole slaw, corrected.

New Palestine High School

Location: 4485 S. Victory Lane, New Palestine

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – temperature measuring device needed for new milk and juice cooler, corrected; C – sour cream too warm on line (needs to be 41 degrees or lower; fill ice around products to top of products and between products), corrected.

Subway Restaurant

Location: 5040 W. U.S. Highway 52, New Palestine

Violations: NC – repair/replace/remove freezer in back room in front of window, repair cooling unit in walk-in, 90 days; NC – remove items not being used for operation, 90 days; NC – clean stove and wall behind stove, 90 days; NC – clean floors in corners, under equipment, tables, walk-in cooler, 90 days; C – raw meat cannot be stored over ready-to-eat foods, corrected; NC – clean utensils and dishes need to be stored on clean surfaces, three days.

Violations found: NC – repair hand sink so it drains properly (should not use three-compartment sink to wash hands); NC – repair stoving behind grill/stove/refrigerator.
