Edward Evans McCartney, Jr, 90, of New Palestine, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015.

Ed was a loving husband and father.

Ed was born in Chadron, Nebraska. He was a WWII veteran, who served in the Navy as a Radio Officer on PBY aircraft. Ed was in the Merchant Marines during the Korean conflict, where he served as a Radio Officer on MSTS ships. While on one of these ships he met his beloved wife, Loraine, a Navy WAVE Hospital Corpsman. They were married 56 years. Ed was retired from the FAA. He had worked at the Indianapolis Control Center.

Ed enjoyed the outdoors and completed all of the sessions and volunteer work in the Master Naturalist program. Ed enjoyed working in his yard, helped with the flower gardens and kept the bird feeders filled. Ed also enjoyed wood working, especially turning. He also enjoyed sports and attended the 500 track races for over 40 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 182.

Ed is survived by his wife, Loraine; children, Michele (Bernard), Edward III, David and Denise (Matthew); grandchildren, Melissa (Patrick), Nikki, Marc, Alexis, Kamryn and Katelyn and great- grandsons, Kayden and Maddox. 

Ed was preceded by parents, Edward Sr and Lorenda (Chulk) and sister Shirley Claric.

Ed was known for his easy smile and quiet personality. He will always be loved and missed by all who knew him.
