Ruby M. Derrick, 89, of Knightstown, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield. She was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Dupont, Ind., the daughter of Clarence and Allean (Cardinal) Sammons. Ruby was a 1944 graduate of Spiceland High School and lived in the Knightstown area her entire life.
She owned a restaurant in Knightstown for 7 years, worked at the American Legion for 11 years and worked at the Dollar Store prior to heart surgery. Ruby was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit #152 and the Knightstown Christian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Janice (Tom) Barton of Knightstown; son, Jerry (Linda) Jordon of Shirley; seven grandchildren, Traci (Scott) Morgan of Knightstown, Jana (Aaron) Burton of Knightstown, Tracy (Grant) Wilfong of Shirley, Rhonda Barton of Austin, Texas, Laura (James) Turpin of New Castle, D.J. (Britt) Jordon of Eagle, Neb. and Jon (Heather) Jordon of Shirley;16 great- grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Jordon and her second husband, Paul Douglas Derrick.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at the funeral home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Richard Thayer officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Glen Cove Cemetery.
