Phyllis D. (Kroening) Rickel, 77, of Fountaintown, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born on Aug. 26, 1938, in Evansville, as the daughter of Charles A. and Lillian V. (Harmes) Kroening. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1956 and received her Paralegal Degree from Indiana University. Phyllis married Stephen L. Rickel, Jr. on March 25, 1961, in Indianapolis.

She worked for Northwestern Mutual as an executive secretary for many years. She was also an administrative assistant for the Indianapolis Project and was a paralegal for Ward & Ward and Robert Marshall. Phyllis was a member of Fountaintown Christian Church. She loved horses and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Phyllis enjoyed singing and all kinds of music. She sang with the “Rick Sutherlin Band” while attending I.U.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Stephen Rickel, Jr. of Fountaintown; son, Stephen L. Rickel, III of West Chester, Pa.; daughters, Shannon L. Martin of Verona, WI, Stephanie M. Wells of Fountaintown and Shelley D. Lee of Morristown; sister, Karen S. Hudson of Evansville; brother, Phillip Kroening of Vevay, Ind.; and 11 grandchildren, Andrew, Brittany, Grant, Jonathan, Ava, Meredith, Tyler, Travis, Nick, Grace and James.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles A. and Lillian V. Kroening.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at the mortuary. Reverend Michael Smith will be officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery in Fountaintown.
