NEW PALESTINE — Zion Lutheran School’s varsity volleyball team placed third in a tournament this month.

Trinity Lutheran School in Indianapolis was host to six other teams for their annual varsity volleyball tournament: Zion Lutheran School, New Palestine; St. John Lutheran School, Indianapolis; St. James Lutheran School, Lafayette; Our Shepherd Lutheran School, Avon; Holy Cross Lutheran School, Indianapolis; and Calvary Lutheran School, Indianapolis.

Zion did extremely well in pre-tournament play. Each team played each of the other teams, and each round was played to 30 points. This determined the top four teams that would then battle each other in round two.

Zion won against every team, except for Calvary, and made it into the top four round of play. In tournament play, Zion and Calvary met again, and St. John played Trinity. Based on the results of these two games, Zion placed third. Calvary won against St. John in the final championship game.

The Zion varsity volleyball team is coached by Alison and Jon Polster. The team includes eighth graders Meadow Arnold, Hannah Christian, Katie Reid and Kate Taylor; seventh graders Katie McKinley and Danielle Steward; and fifth grader Montana Arnold. Fifth graders Maddy Franklin and Paige Taylor supported the team in the tournament.
