Volleyball sectional pairings announced

The Indiana High School Athletic Association conducted its blind draw Monday for the 44th annual volleyball state tournament.

A total of 397 teams in four classes will compete, beginning with sectional Oct. 20 through Oct. 24 at 64 sites across the state.

The tournament continues with one-match regional Oct. 27, followed by a four-team semistate Oct. 31. The state finals will be at Ball State University’s Worthen Arena on Nov. 7.

In Class 4A, Greenfield-Central and Mt. Vernon will play in the six-team New Castle Sectional.

The Cougars open in the first round against Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Pendleton Heights at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22. The winner will face either Richmond or New Castle in the semifinals Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.

The Marauders drew the bye and open in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. against Connersville. The championship will take place at 7 p.m.

Oct. 22

First round

Match 1: Greenfield-Central vs. Pendleton Heights, 6 p.m.

Match 2: Richmond vs. New Castle, 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 24, semifinals

Match 3: Match 1 winner vs. Match 2 winner, 11 a.m.

Match 4: Mt. Vernon vs. Connersville, 12:30 p.m.

Championship

Match 5: Match 3 winner vs. Match 4 winner, 7 p.m.

In Class 3A, New Palestine faces host Indianapolis Crispus Attucks on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. in the first round. The winner will play in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Oct. 24.

Match 1: New Palestine vs. Crispus Attucks, 6 p.m.

Match 2: Indianapolis Marshall vs. Herron, 7:30 p.m.

Match 4: Emmerich Manual vs. Bishop Chatard, 12:30 p.m.

Match 5: Match 3 winner vs. Match 4 winner, 7 p.m.

In Class 2A, Eastern Hancock drew Indianapolis Howe in the first round of the Knightstown Sectional. The Royals will play Oct. 22 at 8 p.m.

Greenfield bowler breaks 800 in league

Jim Proper of Greenfield bowled a three-game score of 803 in the Monday night Sportsman League at Strike Force Lanes. He rolled a 258 in the first game, a 278 in the second and finished out with a 256.

Eastern Hancock group plans Sports Mania Night

The Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters annual Sports Mania Night is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at Eastern Hancock High School.

Activities planned for the night include dodgeball and euchre tournaments, athletic games, carnival games and a silent auction.

Registration for the dodgeball and euchre tournaments are at 6 p.m. the day of the event.
