Linda Hart, executive director of Hancock County Senior Services told Kiwanis of Greenfield about the agency recently.

Hancock County Senior Services is a community based not-for-profit agency committed to promoting awareness of the issues and challenges of Hancock County’s seniors, individuals with disabilities, and their families. The agency is committed to providing comprehensive non-medical support services, including senior and public transportation, to allow individuals to maintain the greatest possible independence.

HCCS provides several services, including:

Transportation: Non-emergency transportation for various destinations is provided by senior services for county residents age 60 and over, and by Hancock Area Rural Transit for residents under 60. Vehicles are available Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Homemaker: Staff provides housekeeping assistance to seniors and the disabled.

Outreach and insurance information: Staff provides assistance in accessing appropriate social services programs, writing bill payments and balancing checkbooks. They also help with various government forms.

Respite and assisted care: Staff provides respite to relieve a regular caregiver by providing non-medical, in-home supervision to frail seniors or the disabled.

Handyman: Service provides lawn mowing, snow removal, yard maintenance and minor home repair.

Volunteer to the home-bound: Volunteers reduce isolation with companionship and assistance for the frail and home-bound.

Telephone reassurance: Telephone calls are made to isolated, frail seniors or those with disabilities to check on and reassure them.

Information and referral: The agency has trained personnel who will answer questions about services and community resources and will assist with the appropriate referrals.

Legal assistance: A representative from Indiana Legal Services is available the first Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at the office to assist seniors with legal questions and documents.
