INDIANAPOLIS — The Mt. Vernon volleyball team swept Warren Central 3-0 in its final warm-up match Thursday night before this weekend’s Hancock County Tournament.

The Marauders defeated the host Warriors 26-24, 25-8, 25-21 to improve their season record to 23-4.

Mt. Vernon opens against rival New Palestine in the county tournament this morning.

The first matches begin at 9 a.m. with junior varsity followed by the varsity teams. All matches will continuously follow each other through the morning and afternoon.

There are four opening round matches set, followed by four matches for the finals and consolation finals.

Against Warren Central, the Marauders were led by Jaclyn Bulmahn’s 12 kills. Mary Grace Ertel had 11 kills.

Ashton Barr and Julia Wayer captained the defense with nine and 10 digs, respectively. Ertel had eight digs. Bulmahn had seven digs.

Meridian Eads paced the offense with 20 assists.

Royals sweep Waldron

The Eastern Hancock Royals made short work of Waldron on Thursday night. 

The Royals won 25-6, 26-24, 25-19.

Leah Ferguson posted a team-best 15 kills. Haley Best added three aces. 

On defense, Reagan Hunt recorded three total blocks with two solos and an assist. Laurie Eells had 28 assists.

The Royals improved to 6-17 on the season and will open against Greenfield-Central in the Hancock County Volleyball Tournament today.
