GREENFIELD — Four people were injured Monday morning after a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer collided head-on with a car that crossed the center line of State Road 9 just south of Greenfield.

The crash occurred just after 10 a.m. near County Road 300S.

A silver sedan driving south on State Road 9 swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a northbound black pickup truck pulling a trailer with one horse inside, police said.

The sedan careened off the east side of the roadway and came to rest in a cluster of trees. The truck spun off the west side of the roadway and went down a small embankment and into a nearby yard.

The two people in the truck were cut from the vehicle and rushed to an Indianapolis hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver and passenger in the sedan were taken to Hancock Regional Hospital.

The horse was not injured. An acquaintance of its owner arrived at the scene not long after the accident to take the animal safely from the scene.

State Road 9 was closed for more than an hour Monday morning while crews cleared the area.
