Late restaurant owners inducted into Honors Park

CUMBERLAND — The town of Cumberland Parks Advisory Council will host its annual Honors Park Induction Ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Each year, the council conducts an induction ceremony to recognize a group or individual who lived or worked in Cumberland and displayed distinguished service to the community through noteworthy accomplishments.

On Sunday, Frank and Viola Buckley will be inducted at Honors Park, at the southwest corner of Saturn and Munsie streets in Cumberland. The event is open to the public, and those who knew the Buckleys are encouraged to attend.

The Buckley family established Buckley’s Restaurant in Cumberland in 1922 as a barbecue stand at 11720 E. Washington St.

Frank Buckley served as owner and manager of the restaurant, and Viola kept the books; she also worked in 1930 as a stenographer and typist for an office in Cumberland.

Frank Buckley died in 1954, and Viola Buckley died in 1975.
