Wright Brothers concert to open Riley Festival

GREENFIELD — The Wright Brothers will open the Riley Festival with their unique blend of pop, rock and country music at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Entertainment Tent.

From the Anderson area, the group has sold out of its most recent CD, “Anthology,” but it can be downloaded from CD Baby.

The Wright Brothers Band has been together for 35 years and now features second-generation performers.

Parades, poets, fiddles among event’s features

GREENFIELD — The Riley Festival opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and runs daily through 5 p.m. Sunday.

Highlights of the festival, which celebrates Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley, include the Parade of Flowers on Friday, the Riley Festival Parade through the downtown at 11 a.m. Saturday, the entertainment tent, Poets at the Podium at 2 p.m. Saturday, and an old-time fiddlers contest at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Library offers movies, popcorn for cheap date

GREENFIELD — Through the month of October, Hancock County Public Library is offering “Cheap Dates for Cheapskates,” a program whose participants can check out a bag from the library containing a bundle of three DVDs and a pack of microwave popcorn for an evening at home. Each DVD bundle has a theme: romance, family, horror, children or films featuring a particular actor.

For each bundle checked out, patrons will receive a slip to fill out and turn in for a drawing to win gift cards to dinner out and a movie at the theater at the end of the month.

Back roads studio tour open in Brown County

BROWN COUNTY — Throughout the month of October, visitors to Brown County can follow a driving route along the self-guided Back Roads of Brown County Studio Tour.

The tour showcases the natural quiet beauty of Brown County and the talents of its creative residents as they open their home studios to visitors to view their art and watch them work.

Studios are generally open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but certain studios may have blackout dates, which can be found, along with more information, at browncountystudio
