Carol (Southwood) Bennett, 64, of Greenfield, passed from this life on Sept. 30, 2015. She was born on Nov. 8, 1950 and was the daughter of Eskel and Bertha (Bell) Southwood. She graduated from Wayne County High School in 1968. Carol married Steve Lee Bennett on May 5, 1973, in Monticello, Ky.
She worked for Ameritech for 31 years before retiring in 2001. She then later went back to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield for eight years. She attended Southport Baptist Church and was a member of the Pioneers Club. She enjoyed gardening roses, canning and traveling the country with her husband.
Carol is survived by her husband, of 42 years, Steve Lee Bennett; two sons, Steven Lee Bennett, II of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Shawn Michael Bennett of Carthage; stepson, David (Terry) Bennett; three step-grandchildren, Kate, Audrey, and Oliver; three brothers, Curtis (Emilee) Southwood of La Porte, Ind., Eskel “ToJo” (Jewell) Southwood, Jr. of Fairland, Ind. and Manuel (Margie) Southwood of Indianapolis; two sisters, Dottie McClane of Monticello, Ky. and Janet (Darrell) McQueury of Russell Springs, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eskel and Bertha Southwood; three brothers, Sonny Southwood, Russell Southwood and Randy Southwood; two sisters, Betty Deane and Aunita Richardson.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, with funeral service immediately following, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine.
