Crews to flush water mains starting Monday

GREENFIELD — Beginning Monday, the Greenfield Water Utility department will begin a water-flushing program to clean the city’s drinking water mains.

The water mains will be cleaned through Oct. 30, weather permitting, and crews will start near the intersection of State Road 9 and U.S. 40.

Residents might notice a slight drop in water pressure, discolored water or sediment in the water. Residents are urged not to use hot water when the water is discolored. If discoloration is noticeable, residents should flush their household system by running several water taps at once until clear.

Signs alerting that flushing is in progress will be posted. Residents are urged to use caution when driving where crews are flushing the hydrants because water might accumulate in the area.
