Dragons recognized in volleyball rankings

The Class 3A New Palestine volleyball team is ranked 13th overall in the recently released Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association polls.

The Dragons tied Mt. Vernon (Posey) with four points in this week’s voting. New Palestine was ranked as high as 10th prior.

The Dragons are 13-1 on the season and won the Greenwood Invitational on Saturday.

The Dragons beat Monrovia in 25-7, 25-16, and defeated host Greenwood 17-25, 25-15, 25-11 to get to the championship match. There, they bested Edinburgh 25-18, 25-17 to claim the championship.

New Pal baseball team’s golf outing scheduled

The fifth annual New Palestine High School Baseball Golf Outing is scheduled for Sept. 26 at the Links Golf Course.

The event will have a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. The cost to participate is $300 per team.

Mt. Vernon cheer sets restaurant fundraiser

A fundraiser for the Mt. Vernon cheer team will take place Tuesday at Kinsey’s Italian Cafe, 6383 W. Broadway, McCordsville.

If patrons present a flier during lunch or dinner, the Mt. Vernon cheer team will receive 20 percent of the proceeds.

Indy Indians playing in Governors’ Cup Finals

The Indianapolis Indians face the Columbus Clippers in the 2015 Governors’ Cup Finals this week. The first two games of the best-of-five series are being played in Columbus, Ohio, with the remainder of the series at Victory Field in Indianapolis, beginning with Game 3 on Thursday (7:05 p.m.).

Tickets are on sale for $16 (box), $12 (reserved) and $10 (lawn).

Fans save $2 when they purchase at least a day in advance at the Victory Field Box Office or before midnight the day of the game at indyindians.com. The box office is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and can be reached at 317-269-3545.

Game 4, if necessary is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Friday, and Game 5 is set for 7:05 p.m. Saturday.

The Governor’s Cup Finals winner will pit the International League champion against the Pacific Coast League champion in the one-game Gildan Triple-A National Championship Sept. 22 in El Paso, Texas.

The game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network at 8 p.m.
