Virgil S. Williams, 100, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 6, 1915, in Hancock County, to the late John and Anna (Sipe) Williams.

Virgil was a graduate of Arsenal Tech High School. He served in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre where he served as an MP with the Field Artillery Division and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He married Ruth Maxine (Huckleberry) on Sept. 26, 1947, in Greenfield, where they remained lifelong residents.

Virgil is survived by his son, Douglas (Nancy) Williams of Greenfield; daughter, Rebecca Simpson of Greenfield; three grandchildren; two great- grandchildren and one great- great- grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth Maxine in June of 1982; two brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of Evangel Christian Church, enjoyed woodworking, had his pilot’s license and flew single engine aircraft.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 West Main, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Funeral service 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Fannin officiating. Burial with military rites immediately following at Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
