Marauders girls golf improves to 2-0

The Mt. Vernon girls golf team won for the second time in as many days with a 190-216 victory against Shelbyville on Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, the Marauders were also victorious in their season-opener at Fall Creek Golf Club in Pendleton against the host Pendleton Heights Arabians 179-183.

Wednesday night’s win marked their second straight against a Hoosier Heritage Conference foe.

Senior Molly Yee and freshman Charley True shared medalist honors with each player carding a 41 at Bear Chase Golf Club.

Senior Briley Wills had a 46 against Shelbyville and Savannah Mckemie followed with a 62.

The Marauders travel to Winding Ridge Golf Club in Indianapolis on Tuesday where they will face Beech Grove and Lawrence Central at 5 p.m.

Eastern Hancock falls in season-opening match

The Eastern Hancock girls golf team lost to Indianapolis Covenant Christian 263-198 on Monday night to open the season.

Hosting the Warriors at Royal Hylands Golf Course, the Royals were led by Abby Fout with a 57.

Emma Lewis followed with a 67, and Kensie Watson shot a 69. Both Alexis Young and Logan O’Neal each scored a 70 in the nine-hole match.

Eastern Hancock hosts Knightstown and Blue River Valley on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in a three-way at Royal Hylands.

Registration open for private, group lessons

The Greenfield Community Aquatic Team is offering group and private swim lessons at Greenfield-Central High School.

Classes run from Aug. 17 through Sept. 3 and will be conducted twice a week. Sessions are available on either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Group lessons cost $65. Private lessons are priced at $100.

All abilities are welcome for swimmers ages 3 and older. Children must be potty trained to participate.

Cougar fans line up: season passes available

All-sport passes for Greenfield-Central High School sports seasons are available. The passes are good for all Greenfield-Central home events except for IHSAA-sponsored tournaments and Hancock County tournaments where gate receipts are shared with the other county schools.

Those interested in purchasing passes should see ConnieJo Harris in the high school athletics office during regular business hours or can be purchased at home varsity football or men’s and women’s varsity/junior varsity basketball games.

Adults passes cost $80, and senior citizen passes (55 and older) are $60. Student passes are $60 and contain picture ID for security purposes.

Costs for individual sports season passes are football, $20 (includes a home scrimmage); men’s soccer, $25 (includes the Greenfield-Central Cougar Cup Tournament); women’s soccer, $25 (includes the Greenfield-Central Kickin’ Cancer Tournament); volleyball, $30 (includes the Greenfield-Central Cougar Challenge Tournament); men’s basketball, $35 (includes a home scrimmage); women’s basketball, $40 (includes a home scrimmage and the Holiday Tournament); swimming and diving, $15 (includes the Greenfield-Central Turkey Breast Invitational); baseball, $40 (includes a home scrimmage); softball, $40 (includes a home scrimmage and Cougar Clash JV Tourney and Cougar Classic Tournament).
