To the editor:

In your July 23 edition, Mike Flynn wrote that the proposed 4.5 percent salary increase to Hancock County employees was not justified because “Hancock County employees have always received a cost-of-living allowance except one year when they all still received a $500 bonus.”

If Mr. Flynn had taken just two minutes to call the Hancock County auditor’s office, he would have discovered that no raises of any kind were given in 2010, 2011 or 2015. The proposed increase for 2016 does not begin to make up the inflationary loss for those four years.

The next time you see county employees, please thank them for sticking with the county.
