Greenfield couple charged in child molestation case

GREENFIELD — A Greenfield couple were arrested Thursday after a young girl told police she had been abused.

Billy Swafford, 59, of Greenfield, faces a felony charge of child molesting. His girlfriend, Tirzah M. Blanton, 31, of Greenfield, faces a felony charge of neglect of a dependent causing injury.

The abuse came to light at Hancock Regional Hospital last month when the girl was treated there for an infection, according to court documents.

The girl said Swafford touched her inappropriately on several occasions at the couple’s Greenfield home while Blanton was away at work, court documents state. The child said she repeatedly told Blanton about the incidents, court documents state.

Swafford faces a Level 4 felony charge, which carries a penalty of up to 12 years in jail.

Blanton faces a Level 5 felony charge, which carries a penalty of up to six years in jail.
