Marauders cheerleaders show their spirit

Members of the Mt. Vernon High School cheer team volunteered at the the 10th Annual Walk for Wishes on July 18 at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis.

They cheered on more than 2,000 walkers to help raise funds for Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana and the 800 children waiting for their wish to come true.

Greenfield soccer parents meeting soon

With the fall soccer season fast approaching, the Greenfield Area Soccer Club StrikersFC Academy has scheduled a mandatory parents meeting.

The meeting will take place at 4 p.m. Aug. 1, at Nine Star Connect, 2243 E. Main St. In order to participate, all paperwork must be turned in to the team manager.

Items to bring to the parents meeting:

  • Signed current code of conduct form
  • Medical release and insurance information (notary will be on hand)
  • Copy of insurance card
  • Copy of players’ birth certificate
  • Picture for player card, no bigger than 2 inches by 1.5 inches

Booster club creating special section for seniors

The New Palestine High School Athletic Booster Club is creating a special “Senior Messages” advertising section in the 2015-16 sports programs. The new section will feature ads with special messages to the athletes of the Class of 2016, as well as those in marching band, winter percussion and pep band.

Those interested will be able to purchase the $25 ads and write a three-line message for the student.

The deadline for Class of 2016 Senior Message ad submissions is Aug. 10. The ads will be featured in both the fall and winter programs. Customers may place an order in person at the Aug. 6 All Sports Meeting at the high school or via email to booster club president Melisa Duffy at [email protected].

Pacers re-sign veteran free agent Rodney Stuckey

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers announced they have re-signed veteran free agent Rodney Stuckey to a contract. Per club policy terms of the contract were not released.

Stuckey, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard played the 2014-15 NBA season with the Pacers and averaged 12.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 71 games.

Prior to that he played seven seasons with the Detroit Pistons. He was a No. 1 pick of the Pistons (15th overall) in the 2007 NBA Draft after playing collegiately at Eastern Washington.

While with the Pistons, Stuckey had a career average of 13.4 points per game with a career high 16.6 average in 2009-10.
