Local Special Olympics fundraisers approaching

The Hancock County Indiana Special Olympics is hosting two fundraising projects this month.

Today, the nonprofit organization is conducting a car wash at the Express Car Wash located at 1102 N. State St. The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will assist in cleaning and drying cars for a free-will offering.

On Wednesday, a Jim Dandy Night will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. A percentage of the food purchased will be donated to the Hancock County Indiana Special Olympics.

Sign-up deadline for Cougar basketball camp approaching

Sunday is the final day to sign up for the 2015 Cougar Basketball Summer Camp which will take place Monday through Thursday at the Cougar fieldhouse.

Participants at the camp will have the opportunity to play with and learn from the current Greenfield-Central high school coaching staff and players. Each camper also will receive a T-shirt. Grade level is based on the grade the child will be in for 2015-16 school year. Grades and times listed below:

Kindergarten to Grade 2: 8 to 9 a.m.

Grades 3 to 5: 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Grades 6 to 8: 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Camp fee is $40.

Not too late to sign up for father, son hoops camp

On Tuesday, Eastern Hancock Athletics Director and boys basketball coach Aaron Spaulding will conduct the 16th annual Royal Father & Son Basketball Clinic.

This unique clinic allows fathers and their sons (boys entering grades kindergarten through fifth grade) to work on their games together. It will feature drills to develop fundamentals and instruction on how fathers can encourage and work with their sons.

The cost is $20 for one son and $10 for each son after.

Greenfield Area Soccer Club walk-in registration this weekend

The Greenfield Area Soccer Club released several keys dates to put on the calendar, including a walk-in registration event this weekend.

Interested families and players can register for the fall season of GASC Recreational TigersFC at the Hancock County Public Library from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

Registration also is available online at greenfieldsoccer.org until July 26. Late fee registration starts July 27, with an additional $10 to cover late uniform orders.

There are no games scheduled for Labor Day or Riley Days weekend.

The GASC TigersFC league offers divisions for players from U4 to U18. Costs to play (per person) ranges from $47.50 to $62.50.

Pacers conducting auditions for 2015-16 dance team

On July 20, The Indiana Pacers will host auditions for their 2015-16 dance team, the Indiana Pacemates. Ten days later, the Pacers will conduct an audition showcase and squad announcement. Interested dancers can register and get further information at pacers.com/PacematesAuditions.

Auditions begin at 5 p.m. July 20. By the end of the evening, the group will be trimmed down to finalists that will move on to the next stages of the audition including an interview process, photo shoots, participation in group rehearsals and a performance in the showcase.

Fan will be allowed to participate in this year’s audition process, as their input will help determine the dancers selected. Fans can vote for their favorite dancers at pacematesvoting.com.

On July 30, there will be a showcase conducted on the Main Floor of Bankers Life Fieldhouse to determine the final squad. Final candidates will perform an opening routine, then breakout performances in mini-squads and answer a question on stage.

This event is free to the public. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. At the end of the evening, the 2015-16 Indiana Pacemates will be announced, and the new team will perform together live.
