James “Jim” Lee Howell, 73, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015, at his residence. He was born on July 24, 1941, in New Castle, as the son of Floyd Lee and Helen Elizabeth (Hanna) Howell.

He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1959. Mr. Howell received his bachelor’s from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. He served in the Navy from 1959-1987. Jim married Mary Naomi (Harrell) on Dec. 18, 1962, in Millington, Tenn.

After retiring from the military he worked for Lockheed Martin for over 20 years, before retiring as a Regional Manager in 2003. Mr. Howell was a member of Greenfield American Legion Post 119. He enjoyed flying as a private pilot, drawing, photography, and developing his own photos.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary Howell of Greenfield; children, Lisa (Tony) Riggs of Greenfield and Jim (Sara) Howell of Rockmart, Ga.; sisters, Jane White and Jean (Gary) Smiddy both of Greenfield; five grandchildren, Zachary (Maddi), Joshua (Lauren), Sarah, and Amanda Edwards all of Greenfield and Aidan Howell, of Rockmart, Ga.; one great- grandson on the way; and special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Roma and Ray Potts of Bartlett, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Lee and Helen Elizabeth (Hanna) Howell.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
