NEW CASTLE — A Shirley resident was sentenced to serve one year on probation after pleading guilty Tuesday to prostitution, court documents state.

Stoney Dobbs, who was arrested in May after attempting to exchange sex with an undercover police officer for drugs and alcohol, took a deal with the Henry County Prosecutor’s Office this week during what would have been a routine hearing leading up to his scheduled trial in August.

Henry Circuit Court Judge Bob Witham also ordered Dobbs to pay about $200 in fines and fees, court records show.

Police began investigating Dobbs after receiving an anonymous letter regarding illegal activity in Shirley. An undercover police officer began exchanging messages with Dobbs, court documents state. They arranged to meet at Dobbs’ apartment, where Dobbs agreed to exchange sex for beer and marijuana provided by the officer.
