Jack Lyday, 80, of Greenfield, passed away on June 12, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was known for being a man of his word, no promise was unkept. He served in the Indiana National Guard, obtaining the rank of Staff Sargent. Jack retired from the Indianapolis Police Department after serving 25 years, and then worked as Deputy Coroner for Marion Coroner for seven years. Another one of his many gifts was running his small upholstery business, which gave him great satisfaction and contentment.

He had many vacations in Florida with family and friends, and he also enjoyed visiting Hawaii and Lake Tahoe with his loving wife. His hobbies included metal hunting, fishing, and watching old-time westerns. Jack’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Valita Lyday, children, Steve Lyday (Betty), Rick Lyday, Tammy Sullivan (Danny); step-children, Melissa Clark (D.J.), Justin Henderson (Ashley); grandchildren, Chase Lyday (Amanda), Daniel Sullivan, Chad Lyday, Garrett Sullivan, Olivia Lyday, and Megan Lyday; stepchildren, Dominic Clark, Tyler Henderson, Alexis Clark, Joshua Henderson, Isabella Clark; great- grandchildren, Brayden, Austin, Gavin, and Gracelynn; sister, Phyllis Pavey.

He was preceded in death by his parents Loren Otis, Elsie Lee Lyday and eight siblings.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from Noon to 3p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St, Indianapolis, 46229, with funeral service at 3 p.m. All are welcome to join in a lunch given at Washington Park East Funeral Center after funeral services, whether they were able to attend services or not.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Police Department Fallen Officers or the Wounded Warrior Project.
