Psi Iota Xi chapter members look ahead to state convention

HANCOCK COUNTY — Members of the Psi Iota Xi Upsilon Chapter recently attended the State Convention in Washington, Indiana.

Mickie Hansen, a 20-year honorary active member, was installed as the new president.

While attending the convention, local members extended the invitation to attend the 2016 State Convention in Greenfield, which will take place next April.

The Greenfield Upsilon Chapter is celebrating its 95th anniversary. Psi Iota Xi was founded in 1897 in Muncie and was the first organization of its kind in Indiana.

Psi Iota Xi has 90 chapters and eight auxiliaries with about 2,210 active members.

Greenfield has 14 active members and five honorable active members.

Psi Iota Xi is a national charitable organization dedicated to helping others, especially in the fields of speech and hearing, along with supporting their local communities.

The Greenfield chapter raises money through fundraisers to support speech and hearing clinics, Riley Festival art awards, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, local scholarships, literacy, and the bands at Greenfield-Central, Eastern Hancock and New Palestine high schools.

In 2014-15 members volunteered more than 140 hours to local organizations, Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, Girls Inc., Paws and Hancock Regional Hospital.
