Dragons advance, Royals’ season at an end

Andy Edwards hit an early, 2-out bases-loaded triple to put the New Palestine baseball team ahead 3-0, and it cruised to a 15-0 win against Herron on Wednesday in the quarterfinal of Class 3A Sectional 26 at Bishop Chatard.

The Dragons (18-11), a defending sectional and regional champ, advanced to face Marshall or Chatard on Saturday in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Marshall and Chatard will square off today. Saturday’s other semifinal is Guerin-Brebeuf.

Against Herron (10-6), New Palestine added seven runs in the third inning for a 10-0 advantage.

Herron collected just one hit in the five-inning contest, while the Dragons pounded out 14 hits.

EASTERN HANCOCK

Royals’ season comes to an end

In the Class 2A Sectional 41 quarterfinal at Centerville, Union County defeated Eastern Hancock 10-2.

Union County (17-12) advanced to Monday’s semifinal to face Knightstown (24-3). 

Eastern Hancock  finished 15-11 on the year.
