George E. Roberts, 78, of Charlottesville, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.
He was born Sept. 5, 1936, in Charlottesville, the son of the late Charles B. and Myrtle (Nigh) Roberts.
George graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1954, played basketball and was in sectional winning team in 1953.
He was the fire chief for Charlottesville Fire Department for several years and was an avid race fan following Indy Car, NASCAR, Sprint Car and Midgets. He retired from Navistar in Indianapolis.
Survivors include wife, Jeannette Roberts; two daughters, JoAnn (Chris) Clark of McCordsville, Robin Roberts of Carthage; grandchildren, Leanna (Robin) Lowry, Sam Roberts; great- grandchildren, Madalyn Lowry, Jaren Lowry; stepchildren, Deborah (Daniel) Kane of Indianapolis, Kenneth Streeter of Fort Myers, Fla. and stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth (Daniel) Engle, Stephen Kane, Anna Kane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara Roberts in 2001 and great- granddaughter, Kaitlyn Lowry in 2001.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. prior to the service. A celebration of life will he held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Michael Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery in Charlottesville.
