Mildred (Millie) Wagner, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2015, at Methodist Hospital, surrounded by family. She was born to Eva and Dowling Mattingly in Loogootee, Ind.

She graduated from Montgomery High School and moved on to nurse’s training at St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Lafayette IN, where she earned her RN.  She lived 40 years in Greenfield, where she attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church and worked at Hancock County Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1983.

Millie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt (Mayme). She had a gift for storytelling and wrote a collection of short stories about her childhood during the great the depression. She was also a wonderful artist, flower gardener and homemaker. She spent many happy hours with her husband Jack in southern Indiana at her son Dave’s farm, visiting her children far and wide, and traveling to many wonderful places. Her most recent years were spent living next door to her youngest son Tom and wife Michelle in Indianapolis where she was happy, healthy, well-loved and content. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are five children, Dave Wagner of Bedford  Ind., Joe Wagner (Nancy) of Houghton Lake, Mich., Betsy Reese (Rich) Portland, Ore., Kathy Marcum (Dave) Starkville, Miss. and Tom Wagner (Michelle) Indianapolis and  seven grandchildren, Dan and Jon Wagner, Will and Brenna Reese, Anna and Mariel Marcum, and Jeana Wagner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jack F. Wagner; her granddaughter, Stephanie Michelle Wagner; daughter- in- law, Jan Wagner; her parents and four brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015, at Little and Son’s Funeral Home 1301 Main St. Beech Grove, IN 46107. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at St. Jude Catholic Church  5353 McFarland Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
