Flower pot recycling program available

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Solid Waste Management District recently announced flower pot recycling is now available.

Four local garden centers have partnered with the district to offer the service to the community.

Once spring flowers or plants are planted, rinse plastic containers or trays and return them to one of the following garden centers to be recycled:

Marlin’s Plant Kingdom, 3333 S. State Road 9, Greenfield; Sunnyside Greenhouses, 3185 E. County Road 700N, Greenfield; Tuttle Orchards, 5717 N. County Road 300W, Greenfield; Well’s Nursery, 3710 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield.

This service will be available free through the end of June. Flower pots and trays are not considered “food-grade plastic” and therefore cannot be included with everyday household recycling. A separate recycling collection is needed for this type of plastic.
