FORTVILLE — Mt. Vernon High School’s National Honor Society raised more than $5,000 for Riley Hospital recently through a penny war.

For the recent penny war campaign, National Honor Society members collected change at lunch. Classes with the most money at the end of the week were able to skip a final. Seniors raised $1,008, juniors raised $2,364, sophomores raised $1,911 and freshman raised $19.

Money raised will go toward the Magic Castle Cart Program at Riley, which provides smile therapy to patients twice a week by giving toys away to children.
