Police enforce parking restrictions near nest

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is reminding residents to be cautious and courteous while attempting to get a glimpse of two American bald eagles now nesting east of Greenfield city limits.

Maj. Brad Burkhart said the Hancock County 911 Center has been receiving daily calls about traffic in the area being impeded by birdwatchers.

No-parking signs will be put up along the roadways near the nest. Officers will enforce these regulations because pulling off to the side of the road causes traffic hazards, and parking on private property is against the law, Burkhart said.

Federal laws protect the bald eagles, so their nest cannot be moved to a more public place.
