WILKINSON — Drew Elliott, a member of the Boy Scout Troop 293 and a resident of Wilkinson, has earned the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that is offered by the Boy Scouts of America. Only 3 to 4 percent of Boy Scout members attain the honor.

Elliott, 14, an eighth-grade student at Eastern Hancock Middle School, achieved the 21 merit badges required to receive the Eagle Scout award.

For his final project, he improved Weir Cook Community Park by doing cleanup, planting trees, placing new mulch, pouring a cement floor in one shelter house, putting a new roof on another and cleaning and painting the Harvey Weir Cook memorial sign.

Elliot thanks the town of Wilkinson and all of the volunteers, organizations and businesses who donated their time and talents to make the successful completion of his project possible.

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony honoring Elliott will take place at 2 p.m. April 12 in Wilkinson.

Family, friends, Eagle Scouts and citizens of Wilkinson are welcome to attend.
