Charles Phillip "Phil" Schutt, 90, of Rushville, formerly of Manilla, died Friday, March 27, 2015. He was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Hancock County, the son of Charles H. and Ruby Edith (Dismore) Schutt. On Jan. 29, 1955, he married his wife, of 40 years, Vida Jones, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1995.

Phil was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Navy with 20 years of service, in January of 1963.

Survivors include his daughter, Pamela (Stephen) Bradley of Rushville; sons, Bryon (Heidi) Schutt of Indianapolis, Millard (Rebecca) Schutt of Rushville, and Darin (Kathy) Schutt of St. Omer; sister, Rita Covalt of Gwynneville; six grandchildren; companion of 19 years, Betty Ashby; stepdaughters, Sandra (George) Coons of Rushville and Jean (Perry) Bennett of Indianapolis; stepson, Jerry (Maggie) Ashby of Rushville; six stepgrandchildren and eight great-stepgrandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Charlene Northam.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony- Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at the funeral home, with Pastor John Wall officiating. Graveside services will be at a later date at Zion Cemetery in Shelby County, with military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee.
