Chess club open to all players ages 10 and older

GREENFIELD — Join the Chess Club for ages 10 and older at the Pat Elmore Center, 280 N. Apple St., where participants can play games, meet new people, relax and have fun.

All skill levels are welcome. There is no formal instruction, but rules are provided. Bring your own chess board. This event is free from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursdays. Summer hours vary.

Games are ready for teens, tweens at library

GREENFIELD — There are lots of free events at the Hancock County Public Library including Tweens and Teens Games for ages 9 to 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield.

Participants can challenge friends to Wii and Xbox 360 games, play “Mario Super Sluggers” and “Sonic Generations” with Twister, UNO and snacks between rounds. Register at hcplibrary.org or call 462-5141, ext. 238. Come to the library’s Greenfield Banking Co. Community Room.

Indiana Historical Society plans annual circus day

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Historical Society will celebrate its 13th annual Circus Day by offering free admission to the event, as well as to the Indiana Experience, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, home of the IHS and the Indiana Experience, is located at 450 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis.

Headlining the entertainment will be the Hampel Family Circus, whose acts will include the Old Time Freak Show and Professor Presto Magic Show. The day will include live animal shows from Amazing World of Animals, clowns, magicians and jugglers.

Guests can purchase tickets to enjoy face painting, balloon sculptures, crafts and carnival games with prizes.

The Stardust Terrace Café, operated by Hoaglin To Go, will provide kid-friendly meal options, and snacks will be available for purchase.
