New Palestine senior Curry named to Top 100

New Palestine senior Ryan Curry was named to Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s Top 100 senior boys list Monday.

Further research and evaluation will be occur during the remainder of the state tournament to determine a final list of 60 seniors who will be invited to Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s 27th annual Top 60 Senior Boys Workout on Sunday, April 12, at Marian University in Indianapolis.

Curry, a guard, led Hancock County in scoring (20.4 points per game) and rebounding (6.4 per game) this season. Among fellow Hoosier Heritage Conference players, Curry was joined on the Top 100 list by Shelbyville’s Mitch Orem, Pendelton Height’s Sean McDermott, Yorktown’s Riley Miller and New Castle’s Kyle Bumbalough and Abe Haler.

Slowpitch registration underway for season

Who: Adults ages 16 and up

What: ASA slowpitch softball spring-summer season

When: Registration ongoing until 3 p.m. March 27. Games begin the week of April 6.

Where: Games are played at Brandywine Park at 6:45 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday, one game per week.

Athletic Physicals Night for the 2015-16 school year is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1. Cost is $25. Physicals much be purchased by 1 p.m. April 1.

Winter Athletic Awards are at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2

Thursday highlights for NCAA men’s tournament games:

No. 3 Notre Dame vs. No. 14 Northeastern, 12:15 p.m., CBS

The Fighting Irish (29-5) were awarded a No. 3 seed — the only non-Big 12 team to get one — after beating Duke and North Carolina on back-to-back nights to win the ACC Tournament title. … Notre Dame is one of the nation’s highest-scoring teams, averaging 78.8 points per game. … Northeastern (23-11) won the Colonial Athletic Association crown with a win against William & Mary.

No. 6 Butler vs. No. 11 Texas; 2:45 p.m., CBS

The Bulldogs (22-10) lost in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament to Xavier, but they own wins against North Carolina and Georgetown this season. … Kellen Dunham leads Butler, which lost in the NCAA championship game in both 2010 and 2011, with an average of 16.7 points per game. … The Longhorns (20-13) make the tournament despite finishing with an 8-10 record in the Big 12 Conference and having a pair of four-game losing streaks this season.

No. 8 Cincinnati vs. No. 9 Purdue; 7:10 p.m., CBS

The Bearcats (22-10) solidified their spot in the tournament with a late-season five-game winning streak before losing on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer against Connecticut in the American Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. … Octavius Ellis leads the Bearcats with an average of 10 points per game. … The Boilermakers (21-12) return to the tournament for the first time in three years, bolstered by wins against Iowa, Indiana and Ohio State during a four-game stretch in late January.
