Cougar grad 6th for Valpo at conference

Greenfield-Central graduate and Valparaiso University junior Chris Sosnowski took sixth place in the weight throw with a mark of 15.27 meters (50 feet, 1.25 inches) at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship at Youngstown State.

Valparaiso men’s track and field team concluded the Horizon League championship in fourth place. Wisconsin-Milwaukee won the event.

Mt. Comfort soccer signups underway

Upward Soccer is accepting registrations through March 14.

The league is open to all boys and girls in kindergarten to sixth grade.

The final signup day is March 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church.

Greenfield-Central sets athletics dates

Greenfield-Central girls tennis conditioning begins Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. on the tennis courts. Tryouts begin at 3:30 p.m. March 16. Complete athletic physical packet must be on file with athletics office for conditioning/tryouts.

The Greenfield-Central High School baseball team will host a bowling fundraiser March 14 at Strike Force Lanes in Greenfield. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the event from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is $25 per person. Lane sponsorships are available for $50.

Tryouts for the Greenfield-Central softball team will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. Monday in the Greenfield-Central Fieldhouse. Interested student-athletes must have a complete athletic physical packet must on file with athletics office.

Greenfield-Central winter sports award programs will be conducted on the following dates: cheerleading, 6:30 p.m. March 16, Cougar Meeting Room; swimming and diving, 6 p.m. March 19, cafeteria.

The 40th annual IHSAA Girls Basketball State Finals, today. Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis.

Session I

Class A: Lafayette Central Catholic (23-6) vs. Barr-Reeve (28-0), 10:30 a.m.

Class 2A: Fort Wayne Canterbury (23-2) vs. Heritage Christian (27-2), 12:45 p.m.

Session II

Class 3A: Tippecanoe Valley (25-2) vs. Princeton (29-1), 6 p.m.

Class 4A: Homestead (26-2) vs. Columbus North (27-1), 8:15 p.m.

Tickets: $15 per session.

Television: All four state championship games will air live on Fox Sports Indiana.
