FORTVILLE — Evan Hunt, a 2006 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, is currently enrolled in his senior year at Ball State University, studying sculpture and fine arts. At the awards ceremony for the university’s Annual Student Art Show, Hunt earned a total of four prizes for his two original furniture design entries, “Standing Table” and “Hall Table.”

“Standing Table” was awarded the Frank Miller Lumber Award and also won the Dean’s Prize as best entry in the show. In addition, the university will purchase the piece for the university’s permanent student art collection, the only entry so honored in this year’s show.

“Hall Table” won the Jim Lukens Quality Hardwood award, and Hunt was also recognized as the overall outstanding senior for 2014 in Sculpture.

Following graduation this December with a bachelor of fine arts degree, Hunt plans to pursue graduate studies in furniture design. His graduate school is yet to be decided.

More than 150 students submitted entries in a variety of media for the 80th annual art show, of which a total of 57 pieces by 43 artists were accepted.
