Seminar speaker explores ‘Compassion’

GREENFIELD — Lois Tupyi will present a 3½-hour seminar on her book “The Defining Difference — Redemptive Compassion” the morning of March 7 at St. James Lutheran Church. New Life plans blood drive for end of March

FORTVILLE — New Life Christian Fellowship will play host to a Lenten blood drive by Indiana Blood Center from 9 a.m. to noon March 29.

2 churches to conduct joint Lenten Bible study

GREENFIELD — First Presbyterian Church and Holy Spirit Anglican Church are having a joint Lenten Bible study at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in the First Presbyterian building, 116 W. South St.

McCordsville church to serve breakfast

McCORDSVILLE — McCordsville United Methodist Church’s next Fourth Saturday Community Breakfast is set for 7:30 to 10 a.m. today. A free-will offering will be accepted to benefit the church.

The church’s next Fourth Saturday Community Dinner is set for 4:30 to 7 p.m. March 14.

Auction at Fairgrounds to aid several groups

GREENFIELD — An old-fashioned country auction will benefit World Renewal International, Love INC and Friends of Recovery-Women’s Sober House, Talitha Koum.

The auction is set for 6 p.m. April 30 at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds.

The proceeds will be divided equally among the three groups. Another Addison Auction will provide the auctioneer services.

Organizers are collecting new, slightly used, collectible or antique items (no clothes, please) for the auction. All donated items are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Eden United Methodist prepares for breakfast

EDEN — Members of Eden United Methodist Church will serve breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. March 7. A free-will offering will be accepted to support local and global mission work.

Lenten series includes soup, bread, speakers

FORTVILLE — Fortville United Methodist Church, 125 E. Staat St., will offer a series of Lenten Soup Suppers on Wednesdays in March in the church fellowship hall.

Each week’s session will begin with a soup and bread supper at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation from 6:30 to 7. Here are the featured presenters:

March 4: Kevin Massa, president emeritus of Fortville/McCordsville Chamber of Commerce

March 11: Representatives from FallCreekRetirementVillage in Pendleton

March 18: Fortville police officer Matt Fox

March 25: Music by Karl Hinkle

Renfro receives missions award

GREENFIELD — Each year the United Methodist Women group at Bradley United Methodist Church presents a mission award to someone who has been outstanding in her work as a Christian, a person, a friend and a part of the Bradley family.

The recipient for 2014 is Marijane Renfro. She leads the church’s Faith Promise Team and was chosen by a committee composed of previous recipients.

Daytime Ministries open house is Tuesday

MT. COMFORT — Mt. Comfort United Methodist Daytime Ministries will have its annual open house for preschool and child care at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Preschool registrations will be accepted for fall 2015. The ministries are for children 2 to 5 years of age. The church is at 3179 N. Mt. Comfort Road (County Road 600W).

Faith groups receive aquarium discount

NEWPORT, Ky. — Newport Aquarium in Kentucky is offering discounted admission to members of all religious organizations during Faith Weekend, March 7 to 8.

Faith Weekend tickets are $12 per person, a nearly 50 percent discount off general admission compared to the standard admission price. Tickets, which must be ordered by March 4, are available for purchase at NewportAquarium.com.
