Senior posts double-double to lead Royals

Led by Logan Splater’s double-double, the Eastern Hancock boys basketball team handled Mid-Hoosier Conference rival Morristown 55-51 on Friday.

Splater, a senior playing his final home game, had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Friday marked Senior Night at Eastern Hancock, and the squad finished 8-3 at home this year.

Eastern Hancock led 15-11 after the first quarter and 27-20 at the break.

Fellow senior Derrik Noel helped out Splater and the Royals with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Cole Fout, another senior, chipped in eight points.

Freshman Addison True led the squad with 13 points, while junior Tom Barton had eight rebounds and four points. Ryan Speas, a junior, added six points.

Eastern Hancock won the rebounding battle, 39-22.

The Royals, 10-11 overall, finished 4-5 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference, while Morristown (5-15 on the year) ended at 2-7 in the MHC.

Indian Creek (8-0) has clinched at least a share of the title and will win outright with a victory against Waldron (11-7, 4-3 MHC) next Friday. Hauser (12-8, 7-1 MHC) can grab a share of the MHC crown with a win against Knightstown (12-7, 3-3 MHC) on Tuesday, and an Indian Creek loss.

The Royals visit Hagerstown (13-4) to end the regular season next Friday, then return to Hagerstown for Class 2A Sectional 41, which begins March 3. The sectional draw is Sunday.

Class A Morristown, 1-9 in its past 10 games, will host Anderson Prep Academy next Friday to cap the regular season.
