Loren Henry Jonas, 81 of Moral Township, Shelby County Ind. passed away quietly at his home in Fountaintown, Ind., on Wednesday Jan. 7, 2015. He was born on Feb. 21, 1933, in Moral Township, to Noble H. Jonas and Leota Bernice Boring Jonas Kracht, both deceased.
Loren graduated from Moral Township High School, and attended Perdue University. He served in the Army during the Korean War, and then returned home to work the family farm. He was employed by the county highway department in his early years, he then went on to retire from Allison Transmission General Motors. Loren served on the Northwestern Consolidated School Board, and was a member of the New Palestine Masonic Lodge.
Loren is survived by sister, LaVonna Jonas DeMaso; brother, Noble WM. Jonas (Carolyn Jean), brother, Leo R. Jonas (deceased), and sister-in-law Betty Kay.
Loren is also survived by his wife of 54 years Karen, who he married on Sept. 2, 1960. Loren also leaves behind his children, Michael H. Jonas (Jenny), Mark L. Jonas, Sheryl Jonas Vannoy (Tracy), and Mitchell R. Jonas (Christina). Also surviving are 4 grandsons, 6 step-grandchildren, 6 great-granddaughters, and 2 great grandsons.
Visitation for Mr. Jonas is from 4 – 8 p.m. Monday Jan. 12, 2015, at Hendryx Mortuary New Palestine Chapel. Funeral Services are at 11 a.m., Tuesday Jan. 13, 2015, in the mortuary.
