Darby Arch Hadley, 82, of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014. at Community Hospital East. He was born on Jan. 30, 1932, in Mt. Carmel, Ill., to Walter A. and Janette Hadley, and married Melba (Chapman) Hadley on July 4, 1954.

He received his pharmacy degree from Purdue University and was a practicing pharmacist for over 50 years before retiring in 2009. Mr. Hadley was a member of Greenfield Christian Church.  He was a family man and loved to travel with his family. He also was a train enthusiast, collected coins, and loved to sit outside in the sun and read a book.

A veteran of the Army and one of the unsung warriors after the Korean War, he advanced from Private to Staff Sergeant in just weeks in some of the fiercest fighting of that conflict.

Darby is survived by his son, Matthew Hadley of Fort Wayne; daughters, Holly (Mike) Wagoner and Amanda Hadley both of Greenfield; brothers, Denny (Patti) Hadley of Anderson and Jed Hadley, Tom Miraglia, of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. and Janette Hadley; and wife, Melba Hadley.

A memorial gathering will be from 5 until 8 p.m. held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, also at the mortuary.
