William “Bill” P. Monroe, 62, of Greenfield went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Bill was born to the late Roma (Saunders) and Paul Gordan Monroe on Oct. 8, 1952. He married Mary Jo (Bowman) Monroe on Aug. 30, 1980.

Bill was a member of the Greenfield Christian Church. He served in the Army for 7 ½ years, during which he fought in the Vietnam War. He worked at the Indianapolis Star for 11 years, and was self-employed as a flooring installer for most of his adult life. He loved his family, but his grandkids were his world, holding special places in his heart. Bill also had many, many friends. He was a member of the American Legion post #110 in Marion County.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; his daughters, Niki (Richard) Mathews and Brittainy (Marcus) Breedlove; his grandchildren, Kory and Devanie Pegan, August and Sophia Breedlove, Nicholas, Marley, and Coleton Mathews; his brothers, Bob, Harley (Rita), Richard, Paul (Diane), Albert, Jeff, and Charlie (Carol) Monroe; his sisters, Clair Trent, Margie (Ray) Posey, Linda (Walt) Roberts, Janet (Hank) Clouse, Judy (Jim) Hermsdorfer, Helen (Keith) Brown, and Nancy Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James and Ronnie Monroe; and his sister, Patty Rutherford.

A public visitation for Bill will be held from 10 a.m.– 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 W Main St, Greenfield, IN 46140. Funeral services will start at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Park Cemetery.
