Walter Alexander Brown, 72, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at home surrounded by family. Walter was born on Jan. 13, 1942, in Indianapolis, to Walter K. and Goldus (Marlow) Brown.

He graduated from Warren Central High School, served in the Army and retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1997, with 33 years of service.

Walter had many hobbies including boating, scuba diving, reading, and genealogy. He obtained his pilot’s license in 1978 from Shelbyville Airport. He was a member of the Madison and Delaware County Numismatic Clubs, Beech Grove Masonic Lodge #694, and Charlottesville United Methodist Church.

Walter leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Jolanda (Jo) Brown; two daughters, Valeria (Tim Rist) Brown and Marie (Mort) Brown Brickles; four grandsons, Jacob & Joe Hawkins, Blake and Travis Pleak; two great-grandchildren; close nephew, Rick Brown; two brothers, Arthur and Kenneth Brown; three sisters, Maredia (Todd) Harden, Pat Smith, Sharon (Greg) Steele; plus numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Walt was preceeded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arnold, Joe and Robert Brown; and four sisters, Bessie Crawford Brown, Edith Cherry, Ethel Johnson, and Charlotte Brown.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary and Crematory, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, also at the mortuary. Marianne Nichols will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Washington Park East in Indianapolis.
