Esther McLellen, 102, of Morristown, formerly from Indianapolis and Hancock County, went to the Lord Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014. She was born Oct. 17, 1912, in Indianapolis to Iva Wise Cunningham and George Cunningham.

She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Indianapolis. She was employed by an insurance company after leaving school, then worked part time for the Red Cross and the Indiana State Fair Board during fair time, while taking care of her family.

Esther also played the organ and played at several nursing homes. Esther and her daughter also sang and played in churches.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. Garriott and son-in-law, William L. Garriott, who built several homes for Esther and Norman and finally an apartment for Esther in Bill and Barbara’s home, where she fed the birds and the squirrels and watched the Brandywine creek flow below on the property. She enjoyed flowers and liked pansies on her deck porch. She also fed the hummingbirds from the porch and took care of the possums, raccoons, and deer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman McLellen, an officer and travel agent for American-Fletcher National Bank, now Chase Bank, where they did extensive travelling by plane and ship. She even kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland, and when kissed respectfully endows one with invincible eloquence.

The family is being served by Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East. Visitation will be held from Noon – 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 . Services to follow at 2 p.m.
