JW Massengale, 82, of New Castle, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, at his home. Although he was in failing health, death was unexpected. He was born Nov. 11, 1932, in Wayne County, Ky., a son of the late Jack and Lizzie (Neal) Massengale.
JW retired from Ingersoll Steel in New Castle in 1984 following 32 years of service. An active member of Greensboro United Methodist Church, he had served in several capacities there, including Sunday School Superintendent. JW enjoyed wood working, and was known for making wishing wells, walking canes, swings, and several other items. He loved to whittle, whistle, sing, enjoyed large crowds, and could throw a great party. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to have fun.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Vera Massengale of New Castle, whom he married July 12, 1955; two daughters, Freda Dalton (Mark Lake) of Knightstown, and Sandy Bogue (Jerry Lantz) of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Jennifer Dalton of Greenwood, Ross (Brittney) Dalton of Brownsburg; Tiffany Bogue of New Castle, and Brandon Bogue of New Castle; three great-grandchildren, Elianah Dalton, Paxton Jay Bogue, and Annabelle Dalton; two sisters, Lucille (Odell) Kennedy of Spiceland and Alta Hancock of Wayne Co., Ky.; a brother, Gene (Natalie) Massengale of Denton, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Bertram and Bessie Brown; three brothers, Henry Massengale, Ed Massengale and Bruce Massengale; and three brothers, in infancy, Otis, Odie and Tim.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at the funeral home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Gene Bennett and Pastor Cindy Upchurch officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
