Charles Steven Hancock, 73, passed away peacefully at home in Greenfield on Nov. 19, 2014. He was born to Charles and Wilma (Sparks) Hancock, in the family home in Greenfield on April 24, 1941.
He graduated from Mt. Comfort High School in 1959 and from Purdue School of Aviation Tech in 1962. He married Ellie (Yates) on April 22, 1963.
In 1962, he returned to his passion of farming and he continued for 52 years and then passed that love on to his sons. He was very involved in the Hancock County 4-H Fair, FFA and served two terms as a Hancock County Councilman. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Ellie (Yates) Hancock of Greenfield; son, Scott (Jill) Hancock of Greenfield; daughter, Nikki Bonfiglio of Greenfield; daughter-in-law, Lori Powell of Fortville; seven grandchildren, Aubrey (DeWayne), Clay (Ashten), Zeke (Jessica), Jessi, Kiley, Shelby, and Lindsey; two great-grandsons, Grayson and Cale with one great-granddaughter due in April; two brothers, Sidney (Sarah) Hancock and Stanley Hancock both of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle; son, Craig; parents, Charles and Wilma (Sparks) Hancock and sister-in-law, Georgia.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. also at the mortuary. Rev. Dave Wise will be officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery in Greenfield.
