Ralph Eugene "Gene" Ramsay, 78, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Thursday, October 16, 2014. Mr. Ramsay was born in Charlottesville, Indiana on April 29, 1936, to the late Ralph Thomas Ramsay and Evangeline (Murphy) Ramsay.
He graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1954 and married Janet Marie Wright on January 9,1955, in Knightstown. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in January 2015. Gene retired from Kraft Foods in Kendallville after 29 years of service in maintenance.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Ramsay of Kendallville; daughter, Cynthia Nesbitt of Auburn; son, Chris and Cheryl Ramsay of Kendallville; daughter, Arlene and Kevin Roberts of Kendallville; son, Bret Ramsay of Adams Lake; 11 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. Gene is also survived by several neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his siblings, Harriet (Reece) Jessup, Lenora (Reece) Cline, and Helen (Reece) Sharp; and a nephew, Gary Jessup.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, and Tuesday from11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Hite Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.
