Stephen A. Beckley, 61, of New Palestine, passed away Oct. 15, 2014, at his residence. He was born on May 19, 1953, in Franklin, Ind., as the son of James A. and Yvonne (Dye) Beckley. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1971. Stephen married Linda (Hooten) on Dec. 29, 1977 in Franklin, Ind.

He worked for Defense Finance and Accounting Services for many years before retiring on Feb. 28, 2014. Mr. Beckley was a member Morristown United Methodist Church, and a past president of the Morristown Alumni and Veterans Day Council. He was the editor of a company newsletter and a co-author for “Walking the Hardwood”. As a child, he won the soap box derby twice in Morristown.  Anyone who knew him knew how quick witted he was and his good sense of humor. He was a family man and would help anyone in need. One of his most cherished accomplishments was being a grandpa. He was a movie buff with a very large movie collection and an extensive knowledge of movies. He helped develop the laser disc. He enjoyed playing guitar, videotaping, super hero comic books and photography.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Linda, of New Palestine; daughter, Susan (Ted) Lewis of Avon; son, Samuel (Candace) Beckley of Ephrata, Pa.; mother, Yvonne Beckley of Acton, Ind.; brother, Mike (Connie) Beckley of Morristown; sister, Carol (Dave) Hamilton of Franklin; grandchildren, Kylie Marie Lewis, Alyssa Katelyn Lewis, Isabelle Grace Lewis and Magdalena Joy Beckley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Beckley; son, Joseph Beckley; and grandson, Taylor Samuel Lewis.

Visitation will be held from 2 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, also at the mortuary.
